Restricted Fire Season Started 2 April 2026

The fire season has moved from ‘Prohibited’ to ‘Restricted’. This means some outdoor fires are now permitted for those islanders with a permit. To apply for a permit go to https://www.checkitsalright.nz/ . (Note that it is now possible to apply for a multiyear permit so that you don’t have to renew it each year.) As always, take note of the conditions for lighting a fire - we value our island too much to see it go up in flames!
