The KIRRA Executive Committee is made up of members of the community who act, advise and advocate on behalf of the Kawau Island Community. Current members and honorary life members include:

Sub committees

In 2024 the following sub committees will be proposed at the AGM and we will be seeking interest from the community to join! If you have any expertise or interest in the following areas please complete the nomination form below. You don’t have to be on the Exec to be on a sub committee.

  • Tiaki o Kawau (Michael) - Protecting, enhancing and restoring the natural environment and biodiversity of Kawau Island (ie, native tree regeneration)

  • Communications (Kate and Jackie) - Sharing stories and information of interest and importance to our history, culture and community (ie, Kookaburra, Social Media, Community email updates and this website)

  • Community Advocacy (Carpark - Sue-Ellen Craig) - Representing the interests of the Kawau Island community (ie, Auckland Council, Rodney Local Board, legal and regulatory matters impacting the community)

  • Social and fundraising - Organising some fun events and helping to raise funds through advertising to support our ongoing work for the community

  • Community Initiatives (Robert) - Organising things like the inorganic rubbish collection and other initiatives that support life on the Island

  • Constitution and Vision - Reviewing our constitution to align with new legislation and refreshing our Vision for the Island

Nomination for KIRRA executive committee

Each year, at the AGM, members of the community are invited nominate themselves or others to be involved with KIRRA executive committee. Nominee’s will be presented, discussed and seconded by a member of the current KIRRA Executive at the AGM.

If you have an area of expertise (ie, legal, communications, administration, advertising, local government, digital/technical) and would like to be involved in another way, please contact the secretary@kirra.org.nz
