Inorganic Rubbish Collection from the Island

The Kawau Island Resident and Ratepayers Association (KIRRA) are coordinating an inorganic rubbish collection from Kawau Island in partnership with Stanaway Marine and Northland Waste Warkworth Re-Sort.

What we are proposing is that KIRRA members can book the pickup of 3 cubic meter rubbish bags, supplied by Re-sort, from their designated jetty/wharf, to be taken by barge to Sandspit where they will be collected and transferred, by truck. to the Warkworth Re-sort facility for disposal.

KIRRA will arrange the distribution of the bags to those who register and pay by 1 September 2023 (see below on how to register).

How the inorganic collection works and what it will cost

1)      Members can register their interest with KIRRA, advising how many bags are required and what the pick-up location will be. Register your interest by the 1st of September 2023 please email Sally Ostick: treasurer@kirra.org.nz

2)      The cost per bag will be $450.00, which includes the cost of the bag, barge transport and tipping charges.

3)      To confirm your booking, pre-payment needs to be made to KIRRA.

4)      The proposed dates for pick up will be between 23 October 2023 – 5 November 2023 TBC.

5)      KIRRA will confirm pick up days as we expect there will need to be at least a couple of barge trips.

The bags are 3 cubic meters, per the picture below. Bags will be numbered to enable track and trace.

How to fill your bag

1)      The jumbo bag has the capacity of 3 cubic metres.

2)      The contents of the bag must not exceed a maximum weight of 600kg.

3)      DO NOT fill the bag up past the top edges.

4)      We recommend putting heavy objects in the first 20 cm of the bag.
